The film An Inconvenient Truth offers a passionate and inspirational look at one man's fervent crusade to halt global warming's deadly progress in its tracks by exposing the myths and misconceptions that surround it. Fenland Green Power Co-operative (known as Fens Co-op) was set up to offer community ownership of wind turbines in the Fens of south Lincolnshire. The co-operative aims to enable members of the public to own a stake in their local renewable energy resource, so benefiting from the sale of ‘green’ electricity. The wind farm at Deeping St Nicholas, near Spalding, consists of eight 2 MW wind turbines. www.tescopoly.org
Tescopoly is an alliance of organisations concerned with the negative impacts of supermarket power. Tesco, for example, now controls 30 percent of the grocery market in the UK and in 2007 the supermarket chain announced over £2.5 billion in profits. Growing evidence indicates that Tesco's success is partly based on trading practices that are having serious consequences for suppliers, farmers and workers worldwide, local shops, the environment and society at large.
